Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of sales literature discussing the company’s products.

Collection Historical Note

Ransome Concrete Machinery Company (Collection 500) was headquartered in Dunellen ,New Jersey. It claimed to have built the world’s first concrete mixer in 1850, and that its first mixer to have been used in building construction was produced in 1875 and saw use in construction of San Francisco, California, City Hall. In 1909, Ransome also built the first portable concrete tower and concrete chute plant.

Ransome “made a combination” in 1918 with Oshkosh Manufacturing Company (Collection 1797); the “alliance” formed the Ransome-Leach Company, which became Leach Company (Collection 1758).

Biographical Note

Ransome Concrete Machinery Company (Collection 500) was headquartered in Dunellen ,New Jersey. It claimed to have built the world’s first concrete mixer in 1850, and that its first mixer to have been used in building construction was produced in 1875 and saw use in construction of San Francisco, California, City Hall. In 1909, Ransome also built the first portable concrete tower and concrete chute plant. Arthur W. Ransome and Ernest Leslie Ransome held numerous patents, individually or together, for concrete mixing and handling equipment. 

Ransome “made a combination” in 1918 with Oshkosh Manufacturing Company (Collection 1797); the “alliance” formed the Ransome-Leach Company, which became Leach Company (Collection 1758).
