Ryan Manufacturing Corporation (1925-1931) | Historical Construction Equipment Association

Name: Ryan Manufacturing Corporation (1925-1931)

Historical Note:

Ryan Manufacturing Corporation (Collection 1812), a division of Ryan Car Company, was headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1925 (1926 per Swinford), Ryan acquired C. D. Edwards Manufacturing Company (Collection 1700) in 1928. Ryan is known to have produced a limited line of large pull graders. Ryan graders are notable for being the earliest documented use of on-board gas engines to power the controls; in 1929, the Nos. 11 10-11 foot, 12-c 12 foot and 12 Heavy Duty 12-14 foot were in production, using Novo 8 and 10 hp engines for power.

Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company (Collection 54) purchased Ryan in 1931.
